Bathroom Trends for 2017

Roman Bathrooms

Trends in interiors come and go. Some stay longer than others, some are just for the moment. Bathroom trends often follow general interior ones and tend to be hot on the heels of kitchen trends.

Here are some of our predictions for key trends in bathroom in the coming year.

Painted Furniture

One of the major shifts we’ve noticed during the last few months is a move towards more classic or country-inspired furniture in the bathroom. Along with this has come the introduction of colour into the bathroom.  Painted furniture is enjoying a renaissance with several brands introducing lovely ranges of timeless classically styled furniture.

The Utopia ‘Roseberry’ collection is a lovely range that has proved popular since its launch – partly due to its sheer good looks and partly due to its versatility. Available as modular, fitted or freestanding units, the choice combinations are endless. There are also six different ‘looks’, and many different colour choices.  This provides plenty of opportunity to create a unique bathroom that is designed just for you.

Hotel Chic

One of our favourite looks for bathrooms is Hotel chic and we believe that this will remain strong again in 2017. Glamour, sophistication, comfort and style are the words that spring to mind when we’re talking hotel chic bathrooms. It doesn’t matter whether you have a large or small area to work with – using some clever tricks of the trade, the look can be achieved regardless. From free-standing baths through to walk in showers and floor to ceiling tiled walls (large tiles work fantastically here), the look can be yours.

Statement Lighting

Lighting has become a much more important part of the bathroom design and increasingly larger percentages of the budget are allocated to lighting.

Lighting can be subtle or bold and splashing out on a chandelier for your bathroom is a great way to make a statement.  Gone are the days chandeliers were reserved for formal rooms or the centre of the galleried hallway – these days anything goes.
A chandelier doesn’t have to be enormous but this is the opportunity to create a real focal or talking point that looks good and is functional too. Classic crystals, glass, beads and craftsmanship all combine to create stunning style.

A good selection of mood lighting is very important in a bathroom. Modern lighting fittings provide opportunities to add mood lighting for romantic or restful bathing; indulgent, fun lighting where appropriate – the possibilities are endless and can make all the difference to how the bathroom is used.

Natural Materials

Beautiful to the eye and exquisite to touch, natural materials will always be a favourite with our clients. With millions of years of history at your fingertips, every piece of stone, slate or marble holds a unique story, crafted to help you tell yours.

We will still see plenty of natural floor and wall tiles next year.  Stone basins are a luxurious choice in granite or marble. At the top end of the market a freestanding bath made from natural stone can look beautiful but can be impractical.  A good alternative is a composite material that has the appearance and beauty of natural stone.

If you are dreaming of a new bathroom for next year why not take a look at our galleries here on the website – better still book an appointment and make 2017 the year of the beautiful bathroom for you.
