Bathroom trends for 2019
The overall style for the bathroom is still one of luxury with natural materials and soft neutral shades. Colour is being introduced, though it is usually in a subtle way with accessories and brassware, rather than a big hit.
Rose Gold, the Pantone colour of the year last year, was extremely popular across all sectors from fashion to furniture. In the bathroom we saw the introduction of Rose Gold in taps, showers and radiators and these will remain popular in 2019.
With an array of different colours and finishes available, taps and showers can add a designer element to any scheme with Matt black, Brushed Bronze and Nickel all becoming firm favourites.
Taps are also changing in terms of shapes and size. The latest trends see angular shapes and taller extra-large versions that are specifically created to complement a high countertop washbasin.
Showers are also becoming bigger and more sophisticated. For a traditional bathroom scheme, the drench-style overhead fixed showerhead is still popular while rain showers integrated into the ceiling are ideal for larger, contemporary schemes and wet-room set-ups.
Shower technology has moved forward so we are seeing more spa-like showers controlled by Bluetooth technology and programmable showers that enable the user to tailor their experience to individual preferences. The Smart Home concept is also extending into the bathroom, which will make it easier to be more water efficient, saving water and energy without impacting on product performance and enjoyment. Mirrored wall cabinets with Bluetooth-connected speakers and built-in lighting that’s touch-sensor controlled are now also more widely available.
Lighting continues to play a bigger part in bathroom design. Good lighting is essential for tasks that are carried out in the bathroom but mood lighting can enhance the enjoyment of the space for relaxation. Recessed spots or LED strips in ceilings, plinths and recesses are now standard. A dramatic chandelier will still be on many people’s wish list in 2019, as it provides a stunning focus.
As with a chandelier, the free standing bath also makes an impressive statement and will always be in fashion for both modern and traditional homes. The free standing bath is not just a functional element but can bring together a design with a definitive touch of luxury. It can be trendy or classic in shape but will always add drama.
