A Spacious Modern Bathroom in Cradley Heath

Owning a period home for its character and style is one thing, but for many families, they discover that its proportions aren’t suited to modern living. This was the case with Alison and Peter Bishop and their three children.

After living with a small bathroom, they finally decided enough was enough – it was time to expand to suit their needs and make it more of a room they could enjoy rather than a functional make-do space.
The first step involved calling in Roman Bathrooms, which is located not far from the couple’s home in Cradley Heath. They had fairly good ideas of what they wanted, but allowed designer Caroline to make helpful suggestions and tweaks along the way.

“We definitely wanted a large bath as we are both tall,” says Alison. We also specified something contemporary and free-standing. Once we’d chosen the bath, the centrepiece was in place, and we could choose fixtures and fittings around that.”

The plan was to knock through into another room to create extra space. Once this was done, it would also allow the inclusion of a roomy power shower (rather than the tiny cubicle they’d endured previously). And from there, the brief was clean lines and practical elements, such as built-in storage.

The work (including installation of an RSJ) was completed in just under 3 weeks, and now the couple are the proud owners of a luxury bathroom they love.

“It’s a fantastic mixture of detail, practicality and luxury,” says Alison. “Roman Bathrooms were fantastic, and we love what they’ve done for us!”

The Practical:
Dual sinks for convenience and speed
Storage – a great mixture of hidden storage and display – all cleverly built into recesses around the chimney breast
The shower – roomy enough so tall people don’t bang their elbows

Three types of lighting – Some set into the wall in the alcove space, some spotlight, and a stand-alone chandelier-light above the bath.

Karndean wood-effect flooring
Bathroom tiles with a grain that appealed to geologist Peter as it looked ‘authentic’!
Mr and Mrs Bishop knocked a bedroom and a bathroom into one to create a bigger room
