Stylish En-suite Shower room
When Jean and John Dimmock moved house around 5 years ago, once they’d settled in they called in Roman Bathrooms. This was the start of a longstanding relationship that has seen them return several times over the following years.
The initial call was to refurbish the main bedroom en-suite. The couple had seen a friend’s bathroom done by us several years before, and they were so impressed that we sprung to mind immediately.
“To be honest,” says Jean, “we didn’t even consider anyone else. Roman Bathrooms had done such a lovely job that we knew it had to be them. And once I’d met the owner/designer Caroline, it confirmed we’d made the right choice.”
With that particular job, there was no reconfiguration of walls, and although the room was a lovely size it was very bland, and not particularly functional. “We have a strange shaped ceiling,” says Jean. “That slightly limited the products we could have, but it all worked out wonderfully, and we were able to put in a larger bath for me, as it’s important to be able to stretch out and enjoy it.”
When it came to doing the work, their worst fears were confirmed when the old shower was dismantled, to find the wood rotting behind it – something Jean suspects was due to lower-grade products being used the first time – proving that you do get what you pay for.
The second job was for the downstairs cloakroom – a cold, grey room with exposed pipes that needed the light, bright touch. Out went the old and in came the new – including improved lighting, and a heated towel rail. “It’s made all the difference. It’s warmer, and there’s somewhere to put the towels at last,” says Jean. “The whole look is simple and stylish. It suits us – and the rest of the house.”
The downstairs bedroom’s en-suite bathroom was next, up-dating it to a shower room (pictured). “John and I chose what we wanted, with advice from Caroline. And when we looked at the design on the screen we were delighted.
“This particular job only required one workman, so in came Max, who did everything. He’s extremely good and very skilled – and he tidied up along the way so we hardly knew he was there. He’s actually a joy to have in the house. The work took about 10 days, and we love it. It’s stylish, simple and suits our modern house perfectly.
“We’ve only got one more room to go now. It’s another awkward-shape, but we know Caroline will come up with some great ideas as always, and we look forward to seeing the team in the future.”
